Using Science to Enrich Beautiful Landscapes
Mugo Pines encounter 2 insect problems and 1 disease. The first insect is known as the European Pine Saw Fly. This caterpillar is dark green in color and they destroy the plant by shear numbers in their population. This insect is found in spring and can be controlled with a strong insecticide.
The second insect that loves this plant is scale. Most people don’t realize they have a scale problem until the needles begin turning all white and the plant begins to turn blackish-green in color. Dormant oils and horticultural oils do not work very well at all with this insect. It is best to contact us so we may use “Talus” an enzyme blocking pesticide that is persistent at controlling this insect.
